Tibetan activist Lobsang Palden, also known as Lobga Rangzen, 52, died after self-immolating outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the evening of July 2, 2026. This act is regarded as a final peaceful protest against China’s continued repressive policies in Tibet, particularly following the enactment of the so-called “Ethnic Unity and Progress” law, which took effect the day before.
In honor of his martyrdom, the entire staff of Men-Tsee-Khang gathered in the college hall this morning at 9 AM for a prayer service to honor his sacrifice.
