From June 12-14, 2024, following the Long Life Prayer offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Men-Tsee-Khang held a three-day conference and workshop on Tibetan Medicine and Astro-science at its Dharamsala Men-Tsee-Khang College hall. Dr. Tsetan Dorje, Chief Medical Officer of Delek Hospital and personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event saw the participation of 250 attendees, including former and current doctors, astrologers, and students of Men-Tsee-Khang.
Based on suggestions from doctors at various branch clinics, the conference and workshop primarily focused on cancer. The aim was to raise awareness about cancer among patients at branch clinics and to enhance the quality of medical treatment, thereby preserving and promoting the Tibetan medical system. Seventeen different topics were discussed, including blood, breast, and other cancers; gynecological conditions; the importance of Tibetan medical compositions; and astrological readings of ill health. These sessions were led by many learned and experienced doctors.
Many doctors expressed that the meeting was very meaningful and beneficial. They are hopeful that similar meetings will be held in the future, as they are crucial for the development of knowledge and the exchange of experiences among Tibetan medical doctors. Such gatherings are seen as greatly beneficial to humanity. The workshop was especially helpful for younger doctors, who were able to learn from experts, clear their doubts, and improve their treatment methods for the sake of their patients.
