Men-Tsee-Khang held a memorial prayer service this afternoon to mourn the passing of Shawo Lobsang Dhargye la, former director of Men-Tsee-Khang. He passed away on October 23, 2024, at his home in Philadelphia and is survived by his wife. The leadership and staff of Men-Tsee-Khang extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
Shawo Lobsang Dhargye la was a dedicated veteran civil servant who served in the Tibetan government during the time of independent Tibet. Following approximately 15 years of imprisonment after the 1959 upheaval, he escaped to India in 1985 and continued his service by joining the Central Tibetan Administration in Exile. In 1988, he served as the Minister of the Department of Religion and Culture and the Department of Health, later becoming the Director of Men-Tsee-Khang from 1990 to 1993. He also served as Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission before retiring in 1999.
