Dr. Namgyal Lhamo from the Research & Development Department returned from her outreach tour to Austria on October 10, 2023. The tour was organized at the Tibet Centre in Knappenberg, Austria, and included a two-week module on diagnostic methods and mild therapy in traditional Tibetan medicine for interested individuals.

From September 21 to 24, she led a four-day workshop on the diagnostic techniques of pulse, urine, and tongue analysis practiced in Sowa-Rigpa. She also described Tibetan medicines and their raw materials exhibited at the center’s museum and introduced nearly 50 medicinal herbs used in Tibetan medicine during an herbal excursion trip to a nearby hill.

During the following days, Dr. Namgyal Lhamo prepared for the workshop on mild therapies in Tibetan medicine after thorough discussions with the faculty members. The workshop, conducted between October 5 and 8, included an orientation and general introduction to drastic and mild therapies in Tibetan medicine, with a detailed introduction to moxibustion and cupping therapy.

While the participants gained new insights into the different aspects of Tibetan medicine, Dr. Namgyal Lhamo expressed her gratitude to the faculty of the Tibet Centre for the wonderful opportunity to promote the ancient knowledge of Tibetan civilization. We would especially like to thank Geshe Tendhar la, director of the Tibet Centre for his great hospitality and support.
