World Hepatitis Day

World Hepatitis day is observed around the world on July 28, bringing the world together under a single theme to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis and to influence real change. As part of the awareness drive, the Department of Health, CTA hosted a webinar for health care workers and patients.

Dr. Lungtok, resident Doctor at Men-Tsee-Khang branch clinic, Gangkyi Dharamsala addressed the webinar along with Dr Dhondup Tashi from Gajang Medical Society, hepatitis B advocate Ven Ngawang Jampa, and Nurse Yama Lhamo.Dr. Lungtok explained that for people with Hep B symptoms, virus can be kept in control if one religiously takes Tibetan medicine for 3-6 month. Men-Tsee-Khang even provides the medicine on concession to the patients. Decrease in the number of viruses in Patient’s report who follow strict diet and medication. Over the counter medicines by Men-Tsee-Khang are also available to treat people who have chronic hepatitis B, Hep C and Liver infections. He further highlights that overall wellbeing of the patient is very important to fight against the virus. Hence, following a healthy diet is very important.
